Marketplaces
You list perfumes that other people sell, and you want each listing to show what is in the bottle: the notes with their pictures, the brand's own words, the perfumer and the year.
What you can do today
- Show a card on each listing. Your server asks for the card of the perfume
a listing is linked to and keeps a stored copy (served for 24 hours, kept up
to 7 days if we error, dropped at once if we answer
in_reviewornot_found), and your listing page shows it under a heading such as Notes / Accords. A listing with no link shows your own notes, as it does now. - Link listings to perfumes. Store the Sniffopotamus fragrance id against the perfume in your own catalogue. Today a person finds the id on sniffopotamus.com/explore. Check the strength: each strength is its own fragrance with its own id. Matching a whole product list at once is planned.
- Keep costs predictable. Only a card we serve costs a call; with a stored copy, a listing costs at most about one call a day however many shoppers open it.
Test with your own app is the full worked example, built on ScentSell's listings: the server function, the stored copy, the page, and the checks to run.
What to watch for
- Take the listing id from the browser, never a fragrance id. Your server looks up the link itself, so nobody can use your server to read the whole catalogue on your allowance.
- One set of notes per page. When the card is there, it replaces your own notes list rather than sitting beside it.
- No label under the description, and no prices or bottle photographs from us: those stay your sellers' own.
What is coming
| Coming | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Product-list matching | Send your catalogue, get back matched ids for the clear ones, and a short list of candidates for a person to choose from for the rest. |
| The builder and looks | Set how the card looks on a listing once, in the builder, instead of in code. Your own colours are white label, a paid extra. |
| A picture of the card | A listing share image drawn from the card. |
| Change alerts | A message when a card you hold has changed, so your copy refreshes straight away. |
